In Christ Alone

Philippians 3:3, 3:7-11

3 For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort,

7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. 10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!

Philippians is fast becoming a new favorite book to read! I suggest you grab the NLT version of the bible and sit down and enjoy the entire book in one sitting. verse after verse after verse is ALL ABOUT CHRIST. Paul never ceases to point the recipients of this letter back to Jesus. As if they had began wandering to other things. In this passage Paul claims a right to boast in earthly things above all others, but he says so bluntly “it’s garbage!” My greatest feats as a human are incomparable when held next to Jesus! In light of His perfect sacrifice what have my human deeds accomplished?

The challenge for the Christian is for us to place value in sharing in His death, and by death resurrection into new life. We must count our accomplishments and stature as worthless and place our entire self into the hands of Christ. In Jesus, and only in Jesus do we find our worth. The God of all creation, greater than we can imagine has seen fit to pursue us with all his might. He gave us his Son, who is valuable beyond words. If we place value or hope in anything other than Jesus, in essence we are spitting on His sacrifice and trampling on his worth. Beloved, He must be our desire! In Christ alone are we made whole! In Christ alone we find our meaning!
